General Information on the NCLEX® Exams

  • North Carolina Board of Nursing || NCLEX Examination Requirements
    The North Carolina Board of Nursing uses the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) prepared by National Council of State Boards of Nursing to measure competence for entry-level practice for graduates of Board-approved nursing education programs. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing has contracted with Pearson VUE to administer NCLEX.
  • National Council of State Boards of Nursing || NCLEX Examinations
    To ensure public protection, boards of nursing require a candidate for licensure to pass an exam that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as an entry-level nurse. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing develops two licensure exams, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), that are used by boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions.

    (NCLEX-PN) was developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. The purpose of this document is to provide more detailed information about the content areas tested in the NCLEX-PN Examination than is provided in the basic NCLEX-PN Test Plan.
